Latin American Geography Trivia
From the Andes to the Amazon, test your knowledge of the landscapes and landmarks of Latin America.
12 questions · Answer correctly to boost your score.
From the driest desert on the planet to the river that carries more water than any other, Latin America's geography rarely does anything halfway. This quiz travels from the high Andes down through the Amazon basin and out into the Caribbean, testing how well you know the region's landmarks, borders, and record-holders.
Twelve questions covering mountains, rivers, deserts, and a canal that changed global trade forever.
A Continent of Superlatives
South America collects geographic records the way other continents collect coastlines. The Andes form the longest continental mountain range anywhere in the world. The Amazon moves more water than any other river on the planet. And the Atacama Desert in northern Chile is so dry that some weather stations there have never recorded measurable rainfall.
Cities Built on Older Cities
Much of the region's history is layered literally on top of itself. Mexico City rises from the ruins of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital that once stood on an island in a lake, and countless other Latin American cities sit atop pre-Columbian foundations that predate European contact by centuries.
Water, Land, and the Canal Between Them
Not every country in the region touches the coast — Bolivia and Paraguay are both landlocked, hemmed in entirely by neighbors. Panama, meanwhile, is defined by exactly the opposite problem: it's a narrow bridge of land so thin that engineers were able to cut straight through it, connecting the Atlantic and Pacific in one of the most consequential engineering projects in history.
